Getting to and Around Campus Bike Repair Stations The University’s Anti-idling policy, which is based on the City’s codes, applies year-round to all UT Arlington fleet vehicles and visiting vehicles over 14,000 pounds. The City of Arlington prohibits idling for more than five minutes from April through October. Idling engines create exhaust that impacts air quality and increases health risks to faculty, students, staff, drivers, operators, and the community at large. This was the result of the Bicycle Coordinating Committee working to document bike-friendly measures on campus in addition to learning more about what work can be done by UTA. UTA joined an elite group of 222 colleges and universities in the nation that are working towards sustainability by fostering a welcoming environment to bicycle users. The group consists of representatives (both cyclists and non‐cyclists) from students, faculty, staff, Student Government Association, Transportation and Parking Services, UTA Police Department, a representatives from Walkable Arlington– an advocacy group for walkability and bikeablity in Arlington. In spring 2021, Office of Sustainability and Parking and Transportation Department assembled a committee with various representatives on campus to formulate and organize a Bicycle Coordinating Committee for the campus. The club ride all types of bikes, including road bikes, mountain bikes, and BMX. The group works to establish members as community supporters, loyal activists and cycling sport leaders. UT Arlington also has an active Cycling – Sport Club to promote the fun and healthy sport of cycling among all members of the UTA community. The BPAC was assembled to provide technical expertise, public outreach support, review of regional bicycle and pedestrian planning, and assistance in the selection of bicycle and pedestrian projects funded by the Regional Transportation Council and the Executive Board of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). The Office of Sustainability also partners and collaborates with The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee ( BPAC) of NCTCOG. In recent years, UTA has campus experienced a tremendous growth in student population. Not only is it an efficient, low impact means of transportation, but it encourages active and healthy life style. Bicycling is an important part of the UT Arlington culture.
